After 25 years of teaching at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I took early retirement and moved to Oregon, where I continue to pursue my research and writing. This site provides information about my previous publications in the areas of chick culture, literature, fashion, and motorcycle studies, and my more recent work in film and visual studies. I’ve published three books on writer-director Sofia Coppola: The Cinema of Sofia Coppola: Fashion, Culture, Celebrity, The Bloomsbury Handbook to Sofia Coppola, the BFI Film Classics volume on Lost in Translation. My book Greta Gerwig: Filmmaker will come out in March 2026. I’m currently working on an edited volume about female fashion photographers with Anna Backman Rogers and a book on hotels in cinema.
